The Microsoft Authenticator App: A Step-by-Step Guide
The Microsoft Authenticator app enhances your online security by adding an extra layer of verification beyond your password. This guide will walk you through setting up and using the app for your GSS Tax Collector account.
Before you begin: Download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your smartphone or tablet from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Make sure your device has a stable internet connection.
Logging in to GSS:
To log into GSS with your provided microsoft account, first you must accesss the tax collector site. Once you are there, you will see this page:
If you do not see this page, and instead see a username and password based login, you are not using Microsoft to login and do not need to continue on this page.
Once you are ready to begin logging in, please click the "Login with Microsoft" button. The page show below will appear in a popup.
From here, you wil enter the email supplied to you by your county IT department.
Once you enter that email, the page will be redirected to a login page where you can enter your password. If you have not yet created a password, then your county IT department will have set you up with a temporary password. Entering this temporary password will then allow you to create your own password.
The next page you will see is the page shown below:
Clicking next will begin the setup for multi-factor authentication.
This is where you will need to download the Microsoft Authenticator App. Below is the icon for the app.
After downloading the app, look back at the computer screen and keep clicking next until you see a QR code. Once you see the QR code on the screen, open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone and follow the steps below:
- Tap the "+" icon in the top right corner of the screen.
- Select "Work or school account" then click "Scan QR code."
- Use your phone to scan a QR code on the computer screen.
- Enter the email provided to you by the county and follow the organization's specific instructions.
